What are Invisible Braces?
Simply put, Invisalign is a nearly invisible way to straighten your teeth without braces. Instead of the traditional metal brackets and wires, this process uses a series of clear, removable, custom made “Aligner” trays that fit perfectly over your teeth. The beauty of these trays is that from a distance of 3 feet, no one can tell you’re wearing them.
The Aligners are made to gently move your teeth millimeters at a time to create a straighter, healthier smile and a more accurate bite. Traditional braces can’t always move your teeth with the same precision and the process is often a more painful and can take a lot longer.
There are some cases in which traditional braces are the better choice, but for a lot of people Invisalign can be the more cost effective and quicker route to straighter teeth. Through a consultation appointment we can figure out if you are a good candidate.
How does it work?
First, we take impressions of your teeth and a model of your mouth. Through a computerized program, we then create a series of Aligner trays. Each tray will gradually move your teeth into position. They are worn for 2 weeks before you move on to the next one. With each new Aligner tray your teeth are adjusted a little bit more until your teeth are straight.
How long does it take?
The total treatment time will depend on how much your teeth will need to be adjusted. The average time for the Invisalign Aligners to work is between 6-15 months.
- You wear each set of Aligners for about two weeks.
- Remove them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.
- Your teeth will move gradually each week.
- Visit us every 2-4 weeks.
- Total treatment time averages 6-15 months.
- Average number of Aligners is between 18 and 30.
