It’s your right to request a meeting with your healthcare provider before making a commitment to a treatment plan. Frankly, a dentist who cares about people (not just teeth) should be willing to sit down with you for a consultation prior to scheduling an exam so that he or she can get to know you as a person.

One patient of ours told me that our initial consultation changed his mind about dentistry. Kevin (not his real name) was extremely nervous about the idea of getting dental work, and he only agreed to come to our office if he could do so without getting into a dental chair right away. Our office manager, Julie, welcomed Kevin into our consultation room and talked with him about his concerns prior to my scheduled meeting with him.
