A Doctor Who Understands
It’s important to have a doctor who understands what it feels like to be afraid to go to the dentist.
When I was 12 years old I had a really, really bad experience at the dentist. The short version is that I skipped Sunday school to play football and I chipped 4 teeth. My father, the son of a Baptist preacher, told our family dentist no anesthetic was needed for a Sunday school truant! The result: a painful 4-hour appointment and a 10 year self-imposed vacation from the dentist! It took a very kind dentist, Dr. Harold Hombs, to restore my faith and trust. My dental career has been dedicated to emulate Dr. Hombs’ kindness and make a difference in people’s lives.
Out-patient dental sedation is a proven method enabling patients to receive necessary care they might otherwise neglect. Nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation are all effective in reducing anxiety. We will sit, talk, and help you choose the approach that is best for you.
Who Might Benefit from Sedation Dentistry?
We see patients nearly every day that have endured an unsightly or painful dental problem because of the fear and anxiety they experience when they just think about going to the dentist. We understand how they feel about coming to the dentist.
You might benefit from dental sedation if you have experienced any of the following situations:
- Felt uneasy about an upcoming dental appointment
- Got nervous sitting in the dentist’s reception area
- Worried about getting numbing shots
- Had experienced a painful trip to the dentist
- Delayed necessary treatment because of anxiety or concern for comfort
